01Novels vs. Movies: Which Tells a Story Better?
Good evening, everyone. We've all heard someone say, "The book was better." But is that really true? Tonight, I'll compare novels and movies as ways of telling a story.
02Inside a Character's Mind
The greatest strength of the novel is access to a character's mind. A writer can spend pages on a single thought or memory. Movies have to show feelings from the outside, through faces and actions.
03Your Imagination Does the Work
Novels also let readers build the world themselves. Every reader imagines a different face for the hero. In a way, each reader becomes a co-creator of the story.
04The Power of Sound and Image
Movies, however, have tools that books don't. Music, light, and acting can create a powerful emotion in just a few seconds. A single look from an actor can say more than a paragraph.
05Shared Experiences
Movies are also a shared experience. We watch them together in a theater and talk about them afterward. And because a movie is about two hours long, it forces the story to focus on what matters most.
06Side by Side
When we put them side by side, it's clear that they're good at different things. Novels go deep; movies hit hard.
07Why "The Book Was Better"
So why do people often prefer the book? I'd argue that it's because we read the book first. When we watch the movie, we're comparing it to the perfect version we imagined, and no film can win that contest.
08Conclusion
In conclusion, neither form is better. They simply tell stories in different ways. So next time, instead of asking which was better, ask what each one did best. Thank you.
