  1. 01Are Students Getting Enough Sleep?

Good morning, everyone. Many of us come to class tired, and we think it's normal. Today, I'll compare what sleep experts recommend with what my classmates actually do.

  2. 02What Experts Recommend

According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, teenagers aged thirteen to eighteen should sleep eight to ten hours a night. Younger children need even more: nine to twelve hours.

  3. 03My Class Survey

To see how we compare, I did a small survey. I asked thirty classmates how many hours they usually sleep on school nights.

The numbers on this slide are made up for practice. They are not real data.

  4. 04The Results

The results were clear. Only six out of thirty students sleep eight hours or more. Most of us sleep between six and seven hours, and some sleep less than six.

The numbers on this slide are made up for practice. They are not real data.

  5. 05Why We Sleep So Little

When I asked why, three reasons came up again and again: using phones in bed, finishing homework late, and having to get up early for school.

The numbers on this slide are made up for practice. They are not real data.

  6. 06What Some Doctors Suggest

Interestingly, the American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended that middle and high schools start at eight thirty or later, so that students can get enough sleep.

  7. 07What We Can Do

Based on these results, I have three suggestions. Let's keep phones out of the bedroom, plan homework earlier in the evening, and talk to our school about start times.

  8. 08Conclusion

To sum up, most of us sleep less than experts recommend. Sleep is not a waste of time; it's part of learning. Tonight, try going to bed thirty minutes earlier. Thank you.
