  1. 01Skip the Bullet Train (Sometimes)

Hi, everyone. When people visit Japan, they all want to ride the bullet train. It's fast and impressive. But today, I want to recommend something slower: a local train in the countryside.

  2. 02Reason 1: The View

The first reason is the view. Local trains go slowly through rice fields, along rivers, and sometimes right next to the sea. You actually have time to look.

  3. 03Reason 2: Real Local Life

The second reason is people. On local trains, you share the car with students, farmers, and older people going shopping. It feels like seeing the real Japan, not just the tourist version.

  4. 04Reason 3: Small Stations

The third reason is freedom. You can get off at any small station that looks interesting. I once found a tiny hot spring town just by getting off where I saw a nice river.

  5. 05Things to Know

A few things to know before you go. In rural areas, trains may come only once an hour or less, some stations have no staff, and not every station accepts cards, so check the timetable and bring some cash.

  6. 06A Good Plan

My recommendation isn't to avoid the bullet train completely. Use it for long distances, then switch to a local train for the last part of your trip. You get the best of both.

  7. 07Conclusion

In short, a local train lets you slow down and see more. On your next trip to Japan, try at least one slow ride. Thank you.

Gracias.
