01Taking Off Your Shoes in Japan
Hello, everyone. In Japan, we take off our shoes before we go into a home. Today, I'll explain how to do it, step by step.
02The Genkan
Most homes have a genkan. It's a small entrance area, and it's a little lower than the rest of the floor.
03Step 1: Shoes Off in the Genkan
First, take off your shoes in the genkan. Then step up into the house. Try not to step on the genkan floor in your socks.
04Step 2: Turn Your Shoes Around
Next, turn your shoes so the toes point to the door. Your host may give you slippers to wear inside.
05Conclusion
One more tip: take off your slippers before you walk on tatami mats. Now you're ready to visit a Japanese home! Thank you for listening.
