01Why Japanese People Bow
Hello, everyone. When my friend from Canada visited Japan, she asked me, "Why does everyone bow all the time?" Today, I'll explain why Japanese people bow, and how you can do it too.
皆さん、こんにちは。カナダから友達が日本に来たとき、「どうしてみんな、いつもお辞儀しているの?」と聞かれました。今日は、日本人がお辞儀をする理由と、皆さんにもできるお辞儀のしかたを説明します。
02A Bow Has Many Meanings
In Japan, a bow can mean many things. It can mean "hello," "thank you," "sorry," or "please." It's a way to show respect without words.
日本では、お辞儀にはいろいろな意味があります。「こんにちは」「ありがとう」「ごめんなさい」「お願いします」などです。言葉を使わずに、敬意を示す方法なのです。
03A Small Bow
For everyday situations, a small bow is enough. You just lower your head a little, for example when you say hello to a neighbor or thank a shop clerk.
ふだんの場面なら、軽いお辞儀で十分です。たとえば、近所の人にあいさつするときや、お店の人にお礼を言うときに、頭を少し下げるだけです。
04A Deeper Bow
In more formal situations, like meeting a client or a teacher, people bow more deeply. They bend from the waist and keep their back straight.
お客さんや先生に会うときのような、もっと改まった場面では、深くお辞儀をします。背中をまっすぐにしたまま、腰から体を曲げます。
05The Deepest Bow
The deepest bows are for very serious moments, like a big apology or deep thanks. The longer and deeper the bow, the stronger the feeling.
一番深いお辞儀は、大きなおわびや心からの感謝のような、とても真剣な場面のためのものです。お辞儀が長く深いほど、気持ちが強いことを表します。
06Tips for Visitors
If you visit Japan, don't worry. A small, friendly bow with a smile is always fine. Japanese people are happy when visitors try, even if it's not perfect.
日本に来るなら、心配いりません。笑顔での軽いお辞儀なら、いつでも大丈夫です。完璧でなくても、観光客がやってみてくれると、日本人はうれしく思います。
07Conclusion
In short, bowing is a simple way to show respect without words. Next time someone bows to you, try bowing back. Thank you.
つまり、お辞儀は、言葉を使わずに敬意を示す簡単な方法です。次にだれかにお辞儀をされたら、お辞儀を返してみてください。ありがとうございました。
