  1. 01Esports in the Olympics: The Case Against

Good afternoon, everyone. Esports are exciting, and it's easy to see why some people want them in the Olympics. However, today I'll argue that esports and the Olympics should stay separate.

  2. 02Owned by Companies

First, every esports game is owned by a private company. That company can change the rules, stop updating the game, or even shut it down. No one owns football or running.

  3. 03Games Change Fast

Second, games change very fast. A game that is popular today may be forgotten in a few years, but the Olympics are planned many years ahead.

  4. 04Violence and Values

Third, many of the most popular esports involve shooting or fighting. This does not fit well with the Olympic message of peace.

  5. 05Health Concerns

There are also health concerns. Top players often sit in front of screens for many hours a day, and the Olympics should encourage people to move more, not less.

  6. 06Esports Already Have a Home

Esports already have their own world championships with huge audiences. They don't need the Olympics to be successful. They can grow on their own.

  7. 07My Position

My position is this: esports deserve respect, but the Olympics are not the right home for them.

  8. 08Conclusion

To sum up, esports and the Olympics are both great, but they work best on different stages. Thank you.
