01Working Night Shifts
Good evening, everyone, or should I say good morning? I'm a security guard at a hospital in Manchester, and for three years, I've worked from ten at night to six in the morning. Today, I'll share the good and the bad sides of night work.
02Good: A Quiet Workplace
The first good thing is the quiet. At night, there are fewer people and fewer meetings, so I can focus on my work without interruptions.
03Good: Free Daytime
Another advantage is free daytime. I can go to the bank or the doctor without taking time off, and I never have to commute in rush hour.
04Bad: Sleep Is Hard
However, the biggest disadvantage is sleep. It's hard to sleep during the day when it's bright and noisy outside, and on my days off, my body doesn't know when to rest.
05Bad: Missing Family Time
Another difficulty is family life. When my family is having dinner, I'm getting ready for work, and when they're at school or work, I'm asleep.
06How I Cope
Here's how I cope. I use blackout curtains, I try to sleep at the same time every day, and I always have breakfast with my family when I get home.
07Conclusion
In conclusion, night shifts aren't for everyone, but with good habits, they can work. If you ever work at night, protect your sleep first. Thank you.
