01I Kept Throwing Away Food
Hi, everyone. A few months ago, I opened my fridge and found three old bags of salad, half a chicken, and some yogurt I'd forgotten about. All of it went in the trash. That day, I decided to change.
02The Problem
The problem was clear. I was buying more food than I could eat, and I often forgot what was already in my fridge.
03The Causes
When I thought about why, I found three causes. I went shopping when I was hungry, I had no meal plan, and I couldn't say no to "buy two, get one free" offers.
04Fix 1: A Simple Meal Plan
My first fix was a simple meal plan. Every Sunday, I plan five dinners and write a shopping list. In the store, I only buy what's on the list.
05Fix 2: "Eat Me First" Shelf
My second fix was an "eat me first" shelf. I put food that will go bad soon at the front of the fridge, so I see it every time I open the door.
06Fix 3: Leftover Friday
Finally, I started "Leftover Friday." On Friday nights, I don't shop. I cook something with whatever is left in the fridge. It has become my favorite meal of the week.
07Conclusion
In conclusion, these three small habits help me waste less food and spend less money. Why not try one of them this week? Thank you.
