   Good evening, everyone. I'm a translator from Buenos Aires. I spent five years in a full-time job at an agency, and the last five years working as a freelancer. People often ask me which is better. Tonight, I'll compare them honestly.

2. 02Freedom

   Let's begin with freedom, which is the biggest reason people go freelance. As a freelancer, I choose my clients, my hours, and even my location. In my full-time job, my schedule was decided for me.

   先从自由说起，这是人们选择自由职业的最大原因。作为自由职业者，我可以选择客户、工作时间，甚至工作地点。而在全职工作时，我的时间安排都是别人替我决定的。

3. 03Stability

   However, freedom comes at a price. In my full-time job, I had a steady salary, paid holidays, and health insurance. As a freelancer, some months are excellent and others are frightening.

   不过，自由是有代价的。全职工作时，我有稳定的工资、带薪假期和医疗保险。做自由职业后，有些月份收入非常好，有些月份却让人心惊胆战。

4. 04Growth

   Growth works differently, too. At the agency, experienced colleagues checked my work and taught me a lot. As a freelancer, nobody checks my work, so I have to invest my own time and money in learning.

5. 05The Hidden Work of Freelancing

   One thing nobody told me is how much hidden work freelancing involves. Finding clients, writing invoices, doing taxes, and answering emails can take up a large part of my week, and none of it is paid directly.

   有一件事没人告诉过我，那就是自由职业有多少看不见的工作。找客户、开发票、报税、回邮件，这些可能占去我一周的大部分时间，而且没有一项是直接有报酬的。

   When I put them side by side, it's clear they suit different people and different stages of a career.

7. 07My Advice

   My advice, especially for young people, is to start with a full-time job. Build your skills and your network first, and save at least several months of living costs before you switch to freelancing.
