Should it stay that way?

Model script

Hello, everyone. Visitors to Japan are often surprised that people don't leave tips. Some even try to leave money on the table, and the staff run after them to give it back. Today, I'll ask: should Japan keep its no-tipping custom?

  1. 01No Tipping in Japan

Hello, everyone. Visitors to Japan are often surprised that people don't leave tips. Some even try to leave money on the table, and the staff run after them to give it back. Today, I'll ask: should Japan keep its no-tipping custom?

  2. 02How It Works Now

In Japan, good service is simply part of the job. The price on the menu is what you pay, and you don't need to calculate anything extra.

  3. 03Keep It: Simple and Fair

Some people think Japan should keep this custom. There's no stress about how much to tip, and every customer gets the same service, whether they tip or not.

  4. 04Change It: Reward Great Work

Others believe tipping could be a good thing. When someone gives special service, a tip is an easy way to say thank you, and it could give staff some extra income.

  5. 05Side by Side

When we put the two views side by side, it's a choice between simplicity and a way to reward great work.

  6. 06My View

Personally, I'd like Japan to keep its custom. If you want to thank someone, you can say "gochisousama deshita" after a meal, or leave a kind online review.

  7. 07Conclusion

To sum up, tipping is one way to show thanks, but not the only way. In Japan, words and respect do the same job. Thank you for listening.
