1. 01The Airline Lost My Suitcase

   Hi, everyone. Last year, I flew from Manila to Rome for a friend's wedding. When I arrived, everyone got their bags except me. My suitcase was lost. Today, I'll tell you what I did, and what I learned.

   Hola a todos. El año pasado volé de Manila a Roma para la boda de un amigo. Cuando llegué, todos recibieron sus maletas menos yo. Mi maleta se había perdido. Hoy les voy a contar lo que hice y lo que aprendí.

2. 02The Problem

   The problem was serious. My suit for the wedding was in that suitcase, and the wedding was only two days later.

   El problema era serio. Mi traje para la boda estaba en esa maleta, y la boda era solo dos días después.

3. 03Step 1: Report It Before Leaving

   First, I went straight to the airline's baggage desk before leaving the airport. I filled out a form and got a reference number. That number turned out to be very important.

   Primero, fui directamente al mostrador de equipaje de la aerolínea antes de salir del aeropuerto. Llené un formulario y me dieron un número de referencia. Ese número resultó ser muy importante.

4. 04Step 2: Ask About Costs

   Next, I asked, "Can I buy basic things I need, and will the airline pay me back?" They explained the rules, so I bought a toothbrush, a shirt, and a simple suit, and I kept every receipt.

   Después, pregunté: «¿Puedo comprar las cosas básicas que necesito? ¿Me las reembolsará la aerolínea?». Me explicaron las reglas, así que compré un cepillo de dientes, una camisa y un traje sencillo, y guardé todos los recibos.

5. 05Step 3: Follow Up Every Day

   Then, I checked the status online every morning and called once a day. I was always polite, even when I was frustrated. On the third day, my suitcase arrived at my hotel.

   Luego, revisaba el estado en línea cada mañana y llamaba una vez al día. Siempre fui amable, incluso cuando estaba frustrado. Al tercer día, mi maleta llegó a mi hotel.

6. 06What I Do Now

   Now I pack differently. I keep one change of clothes and important items in my carry-on bag, I take a photo of my suitcase, and I put my name and phone number inside and outside it.

   Ahora hago la maleta de otra manera. Llevo una muda de ropa y las cosas importantes en mi equipaje de mano, le tomo una foto a mi maleta y pongo mi nombre y mi número de teléfono por dentro y por fuera.

7. 07Conclusion

   In conclusion, losing a suitcase is stressful, but you can handle it. Report it fast, stay calm, and pack smart next time. And yes, I made it to the wedding in time. Thank you.

   En conclusión, perder una maleta es estresante, pero se puede manejar. Repórtenlo rápido, mantengan la calma y la próxima vez empaquen con inteligencia. Y sí, llegué a la boda a tiempo. Gracias.
