  1. 01A Mentor for Every New Employee

Good morning, everyone. Thank you for giving me time in today's leadership meeting. I work in human resources, and I'd like to propose a simple program: a mentor for every new employee during their first six months.

  2. 02The Problem We're Seeing

Here's the problem we're seeing. In exit interviews last year, several new employees told us they felt lost in their first months. They didn't know who to ask for help, and some left within a year.

  3. 03The Proposal

My proposal is this: each new employee is paired with an experienced colleague from a different team. The mentor isn't their manager, so the new person can ask anything without worrying about being judged.

  4. 04How It Would Work

In practice, mentors and new hires would meet for thirty minutes every two weeks. We'd give them a simple checklist of topics, and HR would check in with both of them at three and six months.

  5. 05The Benefits

The benefits go both ways. New employees get up to speed faster and build connections across the company. At the same time, mentors practice leadership skills without becoming managers.

  6. 06"Won't This Take Too Much Time?"

I know the main concern will be time. But this is only about one hour a month for each mentor. Compared to the time we spend hiring and training someone new when a person leaves, it's a small investment.

  7. 07Next Steps

As a next step, I suggest a pilot with the next ten new hires. We'll measure their satisfaction and how many stay, and in six months we can decide whether to expand the program.

  8. 08Conclusion

To sum up, a mentor program costs very little but could make a big difference in someone's first year. I'm asking for your approval to start the pilot next month. Thank you, and I'm happy to take any questions.
