01My First Presentation in English
Hello, everyone. Two years ago, I gave my first presentation in English, in front of my whole class. Honestly, it didn't go well. Today, I'll tell you what went wrong, and what I learned from it.
02My Preparation
I prepared a lot, but in the wrong way. I wrote every single word of my speech and tried to memorize all of it.
03What Went Wrong
Halfway through, I forgot one sentence. Because I had memorized everything, I couldn't continue. My mind went blank, and the room was silent for what felt like a minute.
04Lesson 1: Remember Ideas, Not Sentences
The first lesson I learned is to remember ideas, not sentences. Now I write only key points on small cards. If I forget a word, I can say the idea in a different way.
05Lesson 2: Practice Out Loud
The second lesson is to practice out loud. Reading silently is not the same as speaking. Now I practice standing up, and I record myself to hear where I speak too fast.
06Lesson 3: Have a Rescue Sentence
The third lesson is to prepare a rescue sentence. If my mind goes blank, I calmly say, "Let me check my notes," and take a breath. It gives me a few seconds to recover.
07Conclusion
In conclusion, my first presentation was a disaster, but it taught me how to prepare. If you're nervous about your first one, remember: nobody starts perfect. Thank you.
