1. 01What I Learned Volunteering at a Food Bank

   Hi, everyone. For the past six months, I've spent my Saturday mornings volunteering at a food bank in my city. Today, I'd like to share what I learned.

   大家好。過去六個月，我每個星期六早上都在我們城市的一間食物銀行當志工。今天，我想跟大家分享我學到的事。

2. 02What Is a Food Bank?

   A food bank collects food that stores and families don't need, and gives it to people who need help. It's run mostly by volunteers like me.

   食物銀行會收集商店和家庭用不到的食物，再把它們送給需要幫助的人。它主要是靠像我這樣的志工在運作。

3. 03What I Do There

   My job is simple. First, I sort the donations and check the dates. Then, I pack boxes for families. Finally, I help hand them out.

   我的工作很簡單。首先，我把捐贈的物資分類，並檢查日期。接著，我幫每個家庭裝箱。最後，我幫忙把箱子發送出去。

4. 04Lesson 1: Anyone Can Need Help

   The first thing I learned is that anyone can need help. Before, I had a fixed image of who uses food banks. But I met students, working parents, and older people. Many of them had just had a bit of bad luck.

   我學到的第一件事是：任何人都有可能需要幫助。以前，我對什麼樣的人會使用食物銀行，有一種刻板印象。但我遇到了學生、上班的爸爸媽媽，還有長輩。他們之中很多人，只是剛好運氣不太好而已。

5. 05Lesson 2: Small Actions Add Up

   The second lesson is that small actions add up. I only give two hours a week, but together with the other volunteers, we pack dozens of boxes every Saturday.

   第二個收穫是：小小的行動會累積起來。我一個禮拜只付出兩個小時，但和其他志工一起，我們每個星期六可以裝好幾十箱。

6. 06Lesson 3: Respect Matters

   The third lesson is about respect. Asking for help isn't easy. So we always greet people with a smile and treat everyone the same way, like customers at a shop.

   第三個收穫是關於尊重。開口求助並不容易。所以我們總是面帶微笑迎接大家，對每個人都一視同仁，就像對待店裡的客人一樣。

   Volunteering changed how I see my city and the people in it. If you have a free morning, why not try volunteering once? You might learn more than you expect. Thank you.
