  1. 01How to Give Feedback That Actually Helps

Hi, everyone. When I became a team leader, I had to give feedback for the first time. My first attempts were either too vague or too harsh. Today, I'll explain the simple method I use now.

  2. 02Step 1: Ask First

First, ask before you start. I say, "Do you have a few minutes for some feedback?" This gives the other person a moment to prepare.

  3. 03Step 2: Be Specific

Next, be specific. Instead of saying "Good job," say exactly what was good: "Your chart made the data very clear." Specific feedback shows you really paid attention.

  4. 04Step 3: Talk About the Work, Not the Person

Then, focus on the work, not the person. Don't say, "You're careless." Say, "There were three typos in the report." It's easier to accept and easier to fix.

  5. 05Step 4: Suggest a Next Step

Finally, suggest a next step. For example, "Next time, could you ask someone to check it before sending?" Feedback is most useful when it points to the future.

  6. 06Don't Forget Positive Feedback

One more thing: don't only give feedback when something is wrong. Telling people what's working helps them keep doing it, and it builds trust.

  7. 07Conclusion

In conclusion, good feedback is specific, kind, and useful. Ask first, be specific, focus on the work, and suggest a next step. Try it the next time you give feedback. Thank you.
