1. 01Why Japanese Convenience Stores Are Amazing

   Hello, everyone. If you have ever been to Japan, you have probably visited a convenience store. Today, I'd like to explain why Japanese convenience stores, or "konbini," are so amazing.

   Hallo zusammen. Wenn Sie schon einmal in Japan waren, haben Sie wahrscheinlich einen Convenience Store besucht. Heute möchte ich erklären, warum japanische Convenience Stores, also „Konbini“, so großartig sind.

2. 02They Are Everywhere

   First of all, konbini are everywhere. There are about fifty-five thousand stores across Japan, and most of them are open twenty-four hours a day. In big cities, you can usually find one within a few minutes' walk.

   Zunächst einmal gibt es Konbini überall. In ganz Japan gibt es etwa 55,000 Läden, und die meisten haben 24 Stunden am Tag geöffnet. In Großstädten findet man meist einen in wenigen Gehminuten.

3. 03Not Just Food

   Konbini sell much more than food. You can pay your bills, send packages, take out cash from an ATM, and even print documents. For many people, it's like a small service center.

   Konbini verkaufen viel mehr als Essen. Man kann dort Rechnungen bezahlen, Pakete verschicken, am Geldautomaten Bargeld abheben und sogar Dokumente ausdrucken. Für viele Menschen ist das wie ein kleines Servicezentrum.

4. 04Food That Changes With the Seasons

   The food is also a big reason people love konbini. New products come out every week, and many items change with the seasons. For example, you can find sakura sweets in spring and hot oden in winter.

   Auch das Essen ist ein wichtiger Grund, warum die Leute Konbini lieben. Jede Woche kommen neue Produkte heraus, und viele Artikel wechseln mit den Jahreszeiten. Im Frühling gibt es zum Beispiel Sakura-Süßigkeiten und im Winter heißes Oden.

5. 05The Other Side

   However, konbini are not perfect. Staying open all night means long hours for workers, and many stores are short of staff. There is also a lot of plastic packaging and food waste.

   Konbini sind aber nicht perfekt. Die ganze Nacht geöffnet zu sein bedeutet lange Arbeitszeiten für die Beschäftigten, und vielen Läden fehlt Personal. Außerdem gibt es viele Plastikverpackungen und viel Lebensmittelabfall.

6. 06Changes Are Coming

   Because of these problems, konbini are starting to change. More stores now use self-checkout machines, some stores close at night, and since 2020, plastic bags are no longer free in Japan.

   Wegen dieser Probleme beginnen sich die Konbini zu verändern. Immer mehr Läden nutzen Selbstbedienungskassen, manche schließen nachts, und seit 2020 sind Plastiktüten in Japan nicht mehr kostenlos.
