Tickets Shouldn't Be Resold Above Face Value

Fair prices for real fans

1 / 8

Model script

Good evening. I'm twenty-two, a university student in Seoul, and a huge fan of live music. Last year, tickets for my favorite band sold out in minutes, and then appeared online for five times the price. Today, I'll argue that resale above face value should not be allowed.

  1. 01Tickets Shouldn't Be Resold Above Face Value

Good evening. I'm twenty-two, a university student in Seoul, and a huge fan of live music. Last year, tickets for my favorite band sold out in minutes, and then appeared online for five times the price. Today, I'll argue that resale above face value should not be allowed.

  2. 02The Problem

Here's the problem. Some resellers use software to buy many tickets the moment they go on sale. Real fans are left with nothing, unless they pay huge prices to the resellers.

  3. 03Reason 1: Fairness

My first reason is fairness. Artists set prices so their fans can come. When resellers multiply the price, the concert becomes something only rich people can enjoy.

  4. 04Reason 2: Money Goes to the Wrong People

Second, the extra money goes to the wrong people. Resellers didn't write the songs or build the stage. Yet they make more profit from a ticket than the artist sometimes does.

  5. 05Reason 3: Fans Can Still Resell

Third, a limit doesn't stop normal fans. If you get sick and can't go, you can still sell your ticket at the original price. The rule only stops people who buy tickets just to make a profit.

  6. 06"It's a Free Market"

Critics say, "It's a free market. If people will pay, why not?" But a concert isn't just a product. It's a shared cultural moment, and artists themselves often want their fans to pay fair prices.

  7. 07How It Could Work

How could this work? Ticket companies could run official resale platforms that only allow the original price. Putting the buyer's name on the ticket would also make it harder to resell for profit.

  8. 08Conclusion

In conclusion, live music should be for fans, not for profit-makers. Resale at face value keeps things fair while still letting people sell tickets they can't use. Thank you.
